Refund Policy
Last updated: September 01, 2026
The National Ballet Theatre of Atlanta is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Gifts to the company are charitable donations, not purchases, and are generally final once made — the funds go directly toward building a ballet company, and we plan our work on the assumption that committed support will be there.
That said, mistakes happen. If you gave in error, gave the wrong amount, or gave twice by accident, we would far rather fix it than keep money you did not mean to give. Here is how that works.
Opening with the exception rather than burying it does more for donor trust than a page of formal language, and it heads off the chargebacks that come from donors who assume you will refuse.
How to request a refund
Email info@nbtoa.org within [30] days of your donation. Please include:
• the name the gift was made under;
• the donation date and amount;
• your Givebutter transaction reference number, which appears on your emailed receipt;
• a brief note on what happened.
We respond to every request within [5] business days. We approve refunds for duplicate transactions, incorrect amounts, unauthorized charges, and clear mistakes without argument. Requests outside these situations are reviewed case by case by [ROLE — e.g. the Treasurer], and we will explain our reasoning either way.
How refunds are processed
Approved refunds are issued through Givebutter, the platform that processed your gift, and returned to the original payment method. Funds typically appear in your account within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank. We cannot refund to a different card or account than the one used to give.
What we are not able to do
Some limits come from the payment platform rather than from us:
• Partial refunds are not possible. Givebutter can only reverse a transaction in full. If you gave $500 and meant to give $50, we refund the $500 and you are welcome to give again at the right amount.
• Donations made through PayPal cannot be refunded more than six months after the transaction date. This is a PayPal restriction.
• Bank transfers (ACH) cannot be refunded more than 90 days after the transaction.
• Gifts made by cash or check are not processed through Givebutter and are refunded directly by the company. These take longer — please allow [2–3] weeks.
Recurring donations
You can cancel a recurring gift at any time through the link in your Givebutter receipt, from your donor profile at givebutter.com/profile, or by emailing info@nbtoa.org. Cancelling stops all future charges.
Cancellation does not automatically refund payments already made. If a recurring gift continued past when you meant to stop it, tell us — we will refund the most recent [one] payment on request, no questions asked. Earlier payments are reviewed case by case.
Processing fees and Givebutter tips
At checkout, Givebutter invites donors to leave an optional tip that supports the platform itself. That tip goes to Givebutter, not to the National Ballet Theatre of Atlanta, and we cannot refund it. To have a tip returned, contact Givebutter support directly at support@givebutter.com with your transaction reference number.
If you chose to cover the payment processing fee on your gift, that amount is included in any refund we issue.
Refunds and your tax receipt
A refunded donation is no longer a charitable contribution and cannot be claimed as a tax deduction. If we have already sent you a receipt for a gift that is later refunded, we will issue a corrected acknowledgement for your records. If the refund crosses into a new tax year, please consult your tax adviser.
Tickets and events
If we cancel a performance, ticket holders may choose a full refund or may convert the ticket price into a donation to the company. We will contact you directly with both options.
If a performance is postponed, tickets are honored at the rescheduled date. If you cannot attend the new date, request a refund within [14] days of the announcement.
Tickets to performances that go ahead as scheduled are non-refundable, but transferable — email info@nbtoa.org at least [48] hours beforehand and we will reissue them in another name.
Before you dispute a charge
If you see a charge you do not recognise, please contact us before filing a dispute with your bank. Donations through our site appear on statements with "Givebutter" in the description, which is often the source of the confusion. We can identify the transaction and resolve it far faster than a bank dispute, which can take several months.
.
Designated gifts
Gifts made to a specific campaign or purpose are used for that purpose. If a project cannot proceed as planned, we will contact donors of [$250] or more to ask whether they would prefer a refund or a redirection of their gift to the company's general fund. Smaller gifts will be applied to the general fund, and we will announce the change publicly.
